The new 120mm Tallboy takes a leap further into what short-travel bikes really are capable of. With kick-ass lower-link VPP suspension, a streamlined design, the typical Santa Cruz refinement, and rather radical geometry, the Tallboy is back to being a genre bending folk hero.
Sure, 10mm more travel might only seem like one small stepābut coupled with a lower link-driven VPP suspension design this is one giant leap for the Tallboy.
Itās the kind of bike that makes you sprint while going up, along, over, or down due to the maximum efficiency of the VPP design and responsive, lightweight chassis. But because it shares the same engineering principles as our longest travel bikes, the progressive lower link-mounted shock feels equally at home doing cross-country as it does in extreme-country. Paired with a 130mm fork the new Tallboy becomes ever more appealing to riders who like to open it up.
And the geometry, thatās a big part of whatās going onā¦
Established theory suggests shorter travel bikes get ridden slower, therefore require steeper and more conservative geometries. In reality though, when was the last time you ever throttled back on a fun trail because you werenāt on a bigger bike?Ā Caution to the wind and all that. So weāve done the same here and mimicked our longer travel geometry to create a bike with a 65.5-degree head-angle, generous front center, and short offset fork. Something rarely seen on a bike of this ilk.
And the radical thinking doesnāt stop there.Ā The Tallboyās short-short 430mm chainstays have +/- 10mm of rear axle adjustment to ensure riders of all sizes and styles feel equally at home. Match that to a relatively low BB (335mm and 37.5mm drop) and youāve got a combo thatās ready to haul into every pocket turn and launch out the other side.

Frame-Changer
Redesigned with a focus on efficient power transfer and better handling performance, the S-Works Epic frame features a 15-percent stiffer rear triangle in order to take full advantage of the BRAIN's new race-tuned pedaling platform. A dedicated layup schedule and the use of our top-shelf FACT 12m Carbon takes weight savings yet a step further than it's stablemates, while the piĆØce de rĆ©sistance comes in the form of a carbon fiber shock link, combining to shave a total of over 100 grams from the previous generation S-works frameāno easy task, mind you.
Pairing perfectly with the Brain rear shock for the most balanced suspension perfomance on an Epic yet, the S-Works' Position-Sensitive Brain fork benefits from RockShox's svelte-yet-stiff SID SL Ultimate chassis, improving front-end stiffness and handling precision while keeping the grams at bay.
SRAM's flagship XX1 Eagle AXS group certainly fits the bill when only the best will do, dispatching shifts with electronic authority while we tasked Roval with creating an entirely new Control SL rim that wouldn't just be able to go toe-to-toe with the Epic's newfound speed and handling performance, but add a bit of its own into the mix as well.

The Patrol is the bike that defines us as a company and our most popular model to date. After winning bike of the year in 2016 for Pinkbike and 2017 for VitalMTB, the Patrol has a pedigree that sets the bar for what a modern mountain bike should be. It doesn't curve to one side too far, instead, it truly does everything extremely well.
